Quality engineering

Start test automation with one useful workflow.

How to define a pilot that produces evidence, reusable scripts and a practical handover.

A pilot should answer a delivery question, not just demonstrate a tool. Can a critical check run repeatedly in your environment? Who will maintain it? What evidence will the team use? Define these questions before increasing the scope.

Choose a workflow with a clear purpose

Select an existing manual check that matters to a release or integration decision. Document its starting state, inputs and expected outcome. Avoid a first pilot that depends on several unstable systems or unapproved access arrangements.

Record the baseline

Capture how the check is performed today, including setup, execution and result review. Note existing failure modes and environmental variation. The baseline gives the team something concrete to compare after automation; it is not a promise of a particular saving.

Build for repeatability

Agree the test data, configuration, credentials handling and reset procedure. Keep scripts in version control. A result should be understandable without asking the author what happened, with useful logs and clear pass/fail criteria.

Review maintenance before expanding

Run the selected checks repeatedly, review inconsistent failures and document limitations. Decide who updates the scripts when the product changes. Add CI integration only when the execution environment and ownership are ready for it.

End with a usable handover

The pilot package can include scripts, configuration, execution evidence, open issues and a short setup guide. Use the review to decide whether to extend coverage, stabilise the environment or change the approach. Expansion should follow what the pilot shows.

Bring the discussion to your project.

Share the system, the challenge and the outcome you need. We can discuss a suitable scope and delivery model.
